Over 8 years of experience in renting yachts and catamarans in Ibiza, we have collected a lot of experience and are happy to share our recommendations with you. In this article we will tell you about the most popular coves and beaches of Ibiza and Formentera, where you can drop an anchor to enjoy beautiful views, snorkeling, restaurants with local cuisine and stay overnight.

1. Espalmador

Espalmador

Just north of Formentera, Espalmador is a private island that boasts a breathtaking landscape accessible to the public. This uninhabited paradise offers pristine white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, making it a secluded getaway perfect for a peaceful day under the sun. The Mud Baths (Baños de Barro) on the southern part are a natural spa treat.

This place is enabled with a buoy field.

2. Ses Illetes

Platja Ses Lletes

A top destination for sailing in Baleares, Ses Illetes is renowned for its shimmering shallow waters and fine white sand.  It is formed by a fine sand line that separates the Mediterranean Sea in two. As part of the Natural Park of Ses Salines, it offers not only stunning landscapes but also rich biodiversity. The clear waters make it an ideal spot for snorkeling and enjoying the vibrant marine life.

The funding here is free of Posidonia.

3. Cala Saona

Cala Saona, Formentera

It’s a small cove on Formentera's west coast. Surrounded by red cliffs that contrast beautifully with the turquoise sea, this spot is perfect for witnessing spectacular sunsets. The calm waters here are ideal for swimming and paddlesurfing.

The bottom is sand and rocks, so it is recommended to anchor about 3-5 meters of sand, about 100 meters from the shore.

4. Cala D’Hort

Cala d'Hort

This small and tranquil beach offers breathtaking views of the mystical island of Es Vedrà, which lies just offshore. The crystal-clear waters here are great for snorkeling. In this bay are located the popular local bars and restaurants offering seafood. It's an incredible spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in sailing in Ibiza. Not suitable for anchorage in easterly winds.

5. Cala Comte

Cala Conta

With some of the clearest waters in Ibiza, Cala Comte is known for its spectacular sunsets. During the day, you enjoy the beach and the clear sea, while the sweeping anchorage has room for many yachts. This bay is formed by rocky cliffs providing panoramic views that make you stay here during your Ibiza charter like an unforgettable experience.  To make your day here magical, we recommend to reserve a table at one of the cozy restaurants here, for example the beach restaurant Sunset Ashram, for the sunset time. If you are looking for company and a DJ to serenade the sunset, this is the place to be. Exposed to winds from the west.

6. Cala Jondal

Cala Jondal Ibiza

Cala Jondal opened to the south is wide bay with large boulders and a transparent water. A favorite among the yachting community, it’s known for its pebbly beach and clear blue waters. There are various restaurants to enjoy the best fish on the island, for example beach bar Es Xarcu and Yemanja restaurant. Visit Ibiza Blue Marlin Beach Club for drinks and hip beach scene unlimited is highly recommended.

It is advisable to anchor between 5-10 meters from the bottom that combines areas of sand and algae.

7. Cala Benirras

Cala Benirras Ibiza

Famous for its drumming sessions during sunset, Cala Benirras is an iconic spot on the north coast of Ibiza. The bay is surrounded by wooded hills, offering sheltered anchorage and the beach with a bohemian charm. The partly rocky seabed is a great place to explore for snorkellers. Here, you can bask in the breathtaking view of Cap Bernat, what the locals call the “finger of God”.

Should ideally be visited on Sundays because the drummers descend onto the beach to ‘drum down the sunset’, a unique and inspiring experience that has brought travellers from far and wide.

8. Cala Portinatx

Cala Portinatx

Another natural harbour with the best safe haven on the north of the island. It is well sheltered from all but winds from the north and despite the busy resorts on land, the bay boasts clear water and a relaxed atmosphere.

The seabed of a large part of the cove is covered in Posidonia, so be carefull to not drop an anchor there. The best anchoring option to ensure a good grip on the sand is in the SE corner of the main gulf, facing the beach.  On land there is a small tourist center with a few bars and restaurants and a pharmacy. It's a family-friendly spot with ample amenities, making it an excellent choice for those looking to rent a sailing yacht in Ibiza for a family adventure.

9. Cala Tarida

Cala Tarida, Ibiza

The longest and widest beach of fine white sand on Ibiza's west coast, Cala Tarida is renowned for its stunning shades of blue and green waters. It's a great spot for families, with shallow waters making it safe for children to swim. The area is also known for its spectacular sunsets, making it a perfect evening anchorage.

10. Cala Porroig

Cala Porroig, Ibiza

Cala Porroig is a cove with reddish cliffs that constitutes a natural harbor. An area protected from all winds except from the SW and perfect for spending the night to enjoy the tranquility.  It is recommended to anchor between 5-10 meters and about 100 meters from the shore.
